Serving as a gateway corridor to the City of Murfreesboro, Medical Center Parkway is a major arterial which according TDOT boasted a 2021 annual average daily traffic (AADT) volume of 31,448 vehicles. In anticipation of projected growth along the corridor including the 78-acre Clari Park multi-use development, the Notes Live music, dining, and entertainment venue with a 4500-seat amphitheater, and other planned developments, the City of Murfreesboro chose to take a proactive approach to traffic mitigation.
The City contracted with Energy Land and Infrastructure, LLC to lead the design effort to prepare preliminary and final design of the widening of 3.4 miles of Medical Center Parkway from 4 lanes to 6 lanes from the I-24 Interchange to US 41/70S (NW Broad St.). The project includes substantial improvements to the intersection of Medical Center Parkway with NW Broad Street and its environs, as well as coordination with TDOT ramp improvements at I-24, and the City of Murfreesboro realignment of Asbury Lane roadway project. The plans are being prepared in accordance with the City of Murfreesboro and TDOT standards. ELI is providing project management, roadway design, drainage design, permitting, and contract documents. Sub-consultant team members are providing surveying, traffic engineering for the numerous signalized intersections along the corridor, and structural design support for the two major bridges along the corridor which cross the Stones River and CSX Transportation railroad. The preliminary estimated project cost for this major improvement is $26 million.
