Energy Land & Infrastructure (ELI) continues to expand, and we are seeking a responsible, motivated, and detail-oriented Crew Chief to support surveying projects primarily around the Nashville, TN area and surrounding regions across the state. The position has opportunity for advancement for motivated individuals willing to learn the skills and technology required.

The Survey Crew Chief will be expected to lead a two or three person crew in performing field surveys while ensuring all work is completed in accordance with professional land surveying standards, project schedules, and budget requirements. Initially, the Survey Crew Chief will work independently and additional staff will be added to their crew as needed. Responsibilities include a variety of surveying services such as boundary surveys, route surveys, pipeline surveys, topographic surveys, construction layout, as-built surveys, and aerial (UAS/drone) surveying. This role is a key part of the project team and involves regular communication with company leadership, team members, and clients.

Travel to project sites within approximately a 2-hour radius should be expected. Overnight travel and out of state travel will be required as needed, with per diem provided. This position will report to the Nashville, TN office, and on occasion may support other ELI offices. Essential duties and responsibilities for this position include the following:

  • Oversees the daily field operations of a one-, two- or three-man survey crew.
  • Survey data collection using GNSS, robotic, or conventional methods in accordance with corporate and/or client standards.
  • Determines most efficient plan of action for data acquisition for a variety field survey.
  • Accurately documents work performed and sketches.
  • Communicates daily with Survey Manager regarding project schedule and work progress.
  • Collaborates with the Survey Team to determine the most efficient plan of action for data acquisition for a variety field survey.
  • Interacts professionally with client representatives and landowners.
  • Reads and interprets engineering plans and construction drawings/specifications and understands all aspects of the project specifications and tolerances.
  • Prepares daily reports, time sheets, and other required paperwork.
  • Recruits, manages, trains, and mentors Sr. Survey Technicians and Survey Technicians.
  • Maintains vehicle and field equipment.
  • Out-of-town work.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

 

Travel will be expected and must be able to work overtime. This position will require the applicant to work in outdoor conditions and must be able to lift and carry survey equipment.

 

Education/Experience Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent
  • The ideal candidate will possess a 2 or 4-year degree in surveying, engineering, construction management, or a related field (Preferred but not required)
  • 5+ years of experience in the field management of land surveying projects and crews
  • LSIT or Certified Survey Technician III / IV (CST III/IV) (Preferred but not required)
  • FAA Part 107 sUAS Remote Pilot Certification (Preferred but not required)
  • Experience using Trimble equipment (Preferred but not required)
  • Experience with Autodesk Civil 3D (Preferred but not required)
  • Proficient with business software (Outlook, Excel, and Word)
  • Knowledge of surveying principles, methods, and field procedures
  • Understand/follow directions and a willingness to learn
  • Strong communication skills

Schedule:

  • Full time
  • Monday to Friday (possible weekends)
  • Overtime available but not guaranteed
